SEAFLOOR STORMS
Scientists have discovered great moving masses of water thousands of feet down in the Gulf of Mexico which some call seafloor storms.  The powerful currents have carved furrows into the seafloor.  Along the continental shelf, where the sea floor is 8,000 to 10,000 feet deep, researchers encountered masses of water nearly 2,000 feet thick moving at 1 to 1.5 knots.  What causes the storms is currently unknown but scientists are continuing to study the large seafloor storm/current.
