Billfish Classic

TOURNAMENT RULES

JUNE 04 THRU 08, 2008

 

DATES: The Tournament will consist of two days of fishing, Friday, June 06, 2008 and Saturday, June 07, 2008. One day or part thereof of offshore fishing by one-third of the boats entered constitute a complete tournament. In the event of inclement weather, the Tournament will be completed on the first day that the tournament chairman and tournament committee declare fishable.

TOURNAMENT REGISTRATION: Anyone registering on Wednesday, June 04th, can do so at tournament headquarters which will be located at the Isle of Capri Casino Resort from 1:00 PM until 9:00 PM.

CAPTAIN’S MEETING: The Captain’s Meeting will be held from 6:30 – 7:00 pm at the Isle of Capri Casino Resort on Wednesday, June 04th, 2008. The Captain’s & Angler’s Banquet will begin at 7:00 pm at the Isle of Capri Casino Resort. Everyone is invited to attend this Banquet.

THE CAPTAIN/OWNER OR DESIGNATED REPRESENTATIVE MUST BE PRESENT AT THE CAPTAIN’S MEETING.  SIGN IN IS REQUIRED.

TOURNAMENT START: In the interest of true sportsmanship and to keep all participants on as near equal basis as possible; the start of the tournament and the fishing hours will be as follows:

Boats may depart anytime after 4:00 pm, Thursday, June 05th, 2008.

FISHING HOURS: Fishing begins at 12:01 am on Friday, June 06th, 2008. Fishing ends at 6:00 pm Saturday, June 07th, 2008. Scales will open at 4:00 pm Friday, June 06th, 2008 and will close at 11:00 pm. Scales will open at 4:00 pm Saturday, June 07th, 2008 and close at 11:00 pm. All fish caught during the tournament must be weighed before scales close on Saturday, June 07th, 2008.

REPORTING OF FISH – BILLFISH ONLY: Committee boats and communication frequencies will be announced at the Captain’s Meeting. All billfish must be reported to one of the committee boats. This is a must requirement. Please use alternate frequencies for ship to shore conversations, to facilitate reporting of billfish.

Do Not Report Tuna, Dolphin or Wahoo.

Be prepared to give the following info when reporting Billfish:

1. Name of Boat 2. Name of Angler 3. Species of Billfish 4. Time tagged, released or boated.

The committee boat will verify your catch by giving you a confirmation number and time reported.

Please make certain that the committee boat has confirmed your data. NOTE: If you are hooked up prior to the closing of fishing be certain to notify one of the committee boats at once to receive permission to continue fighting the fish. Committee boats will monitor VHF Channel 78.
